Joseph Nash and family
I was searching for previous flooding over the years in the far north of Aotearoa and found this article relating to Motukaraka - Wairoa Bell, 29th July 1892 but couldn't find any photos relating to this event.

So I went looking for the people named in other parts of the article and found some information on the Nash family.
Joseph Nash was born in 1840 in Derbyshire, England and arrived in Aotearoa sometime in the 1860s. Electorol records show that he lived in Ngaruawahia in 1880 which was a place known for timber milling.
He married Julia Ann on 8th October 1878 in Auckland (he was 34 and his occupation was bushman - she was listed as a domestic servant). They had 11 children; 8 sons and 3 daughter being named as Edward, Julia, Caroline, Joseph, Frederick, Mary Ann, Charles, Henry, William, Francis and Thomas.
In 1886 the Crown Lands Commissioner announced the special settlements perpetual leases of land in Northland as Motukaraka Block and Joseph Nash is listed as being one of the earliest settlers to this area. He passed away in 1900 and is buried with Julia in the Rawene Cemetery. The only photo I could find was of his wife and some of their children (below). Julia is in the centre, Annie to the left, Thomas, Caroline, Frank and William.
