Te Kopuru Hall

I've driven past this little building that sort of looks like a hall a few times over the years and wondered what it's original purpose was.

Although it is now being used as part of the Te Kopuru community gardens it appears it was once used for girl guides, scouts, red cross clothing sales, market days and town meetings. Looks like it was built around the turn of the 20th century possibly.

That's a lovelt little hall. So typical of those from days gone by. Sort of place I might have gone to when I was a Brownie lol

A friend and I used to go 'on safari' around New Zealand and we must have visited more wee churches like this one than anything else. They were like magnets to us.

A fine old building it is.

It was the Te Kopuru Methodist Church until 1946 when the "new"Church opened. My parents were married there as the new building wasn't quite ready.

It was then used as Sunday School, youth group, after school happy hour, CWA meetings etc..
