Whangaroa Dairy Company
I've been trying to find out information about this building for a while now. On the outskirts of Kaeo is the Whangaroa Co-operative Dairy Company established 1910.
The Northland Age, Volume VII, Issue 10, 5 November 1910 says:
In the absence of Mr Albert Nisbet who is sick, Mr Joseph Hare made an inaugural address to the numerous people who had assembled. Other speakers were Mr Tait (Manager) who urged the Kaeo people to get a move on. Mr G. Wilkinson made a good speech in he from his experiences tendered much good advice and encouragement. Mr Harris, of Oruru Factory congratulated the company on the equipment of the factory and also offered sound advice to the suppliers. After speeches everyone went inside and the machinery was started. Later on the directors and a number of visitors sat down to dinner. The manager, Mr Tait had invited the schoolmaster to bring the older children to the factory and he will explain everything to them, offering a prize to the one who writes the best essay on the building.
Upon checking when the company closed, even though on the building the dates say 1910 to 1938 I couldn't find information on why it closed but thanks to Liz's help apparently this dairy company merged with the Bay of Islands Dairy Company around 1950.
