James Temperance Hotel

This beauty use to sit in Whangarei until it was maybe demolished in the 1980s to make way for newer buildings sadly.  The Northern Advocate from 14th August 1912 says this about the date it was built:

And this one tells how the hotel has a new owner, how the business has grown and been renovated from Northern Advocate 20th December 1921:

There have been further questions on whether the hotel servied alcohol and was perhaps a pub as well but according to research it was just used as a boarding house.

gggrrr it is so distressing when historically important and attractive architecture is destroyed. Hopefully the Council that approved the destruction back in the 1980s still cannot sleep at night.
