Settler's Hotel - Whangarei

The Settlers Hotel in Whangarei is located near the Hatea River and is named after the original hotel which was there in the 1850s and owned by a Mr and Mrs Naylor but sadly it was destroyed in a fire in 1875.

A similar hotel built from wood a year later also burned down in the early 1900s. A much larger hotel was built again and opened in 1967 by Lion Breweries and was marketed for sale in 2003.

A lovely classic building. Though those wooden buildings must have been real fire hazards.
