Parua Bay Sunfish

Taken from the supplement to the Auckland Weekly News 14 March 1902, photographer G.E. Sutcliffe, Auckland Libraries Heritage Collections

If you've never seen these before they are the largest bony fish in the world. Their ancestors have been around for 12 million years and they are mainly found in Oceanic waters. Although they mostly wash up on shore they have been found as far away as the Otago harbour.
