The Wedge

In Rawene on the corner of the Clendon Esplanade is this unique looking building named "The Wedge". It was built in the 1940s as a triangular, 2 storey, joinery workshop and both floors have entry from ground level because the street rises on one side.

Quite a few businesses have lived inside the building over the years but the most well known was that of David Lange, who at the time was a lawyer but later became Prime Minister of New Zealand from 1984-1989,

Some prime ministers have luxurious early lives, and some lived and worked as normal people. Lawyer David Lange seemed to come from a life that most people could have identified with.

As I recall it used to be a casket factory but I could be wrong on that.
